WASHINGTON - An exhibit at the Pope John Paul II Cultural Center is making the Easter holiday a more moving and spiritual experience for some Christians.

A number of documented relics from Christ's crucifixion, including small pieces of Christ's cross, the crown of thorns and the burial shroud, are on display, as well as a replica of a crucifixion nail.

"And when you think how that went through each of his wrists and his ankles, that begins to make it a very real experience," says Dan Callahan with the Cultural Center.

The exhibit runs through April 18.

On Good Friday, the exhibit will have extended hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibit will also be open on Easter Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and Easter Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, the center will hold an Easter Egg Hunt at 2 p.m. On Sunday and Monday, the center will have design your own kite hours from noon to 4 p.m. Caribbean cultures celebrate Easter with kite-flying.

The museum's normal hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

The Pope John Paul II Cultural Center is located at 3900 Harewood Rd., NE.
